Bennettsville Beef Stew
Bennettsville Beef Stew is a hearty dish that is easily to make and satisfies the whole family. It is simply made and after combined in the pot the ingredients come together in a slow cook for a delicious stew.
2 lbs stew beef
¼ cup vegetable oil
¼ cup flour
4 medium sliced onions
3 medium carrots sliced in diagonal strips
3 stalks of chopped celery
2 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
½ teaspoon marjoram
1 tsp fresh thyme (or 1 ½ tsp of dried thyme)
1 can tomato sauce
3 cups of beef broth
Large frying pan
Dredge beef in flour completely covering meat.
Heat vegetable oil in frying pan on medium heat.
Sear beef on all sides until golden brown.
Add all other ingredients except onions, carrots and celery.
Cover and simmer for 2 hours.
Add remaining vegetables then cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
Can be served by itself with no starch.
Serve in a bowl.
Can be served with rice, mashed potatoes or potatoes au gratin.
Place rice, mashed potatoes or potatoes au gratin on plate or in bowl.
Ladle beef stew over top, evenly distributing beef and vegetables over each plate.
